Inspiration

Have you ever seen or experienced a moment that truly inspired you? This inspires me.

Last week, a BMW and a motorcycle collided, sending the rider of the bike under the car, where he lay unconscious. A man with a videotape was able to film the entire thing. A group of bystanders who witnessed the accident rushed over to pull the man to safety, but couldn't reach him with the flames nearby. The witnesses immediately tried to lift the car off of the man, but by themselves, couldn't move the car. As the video continues, more people rush to help lift the car. Through sheer strength in numbers, the group of strangers is able to lift the car and another man pulls the motorcyclist from beneath the car.

This experience is truly incredible. It shows our instinctive reaction to help others. It shows that we are human. We are able to work together to accomplish a common goal. Nobody stopped and asked, "Wait, are you a Christian? Well I'm not helping then!" This shows that in times of emergency or struggle, we can band together, despite our personal oppositions. We don't look at petty differences when there's work to be done, when there's a greater purpose. As part of the human race, we can see past all daily competition and pointless arguments and we can do great things.

No single person could have lifted that car. Not even two or three. It took many people, working together as a cohesive unit to save that man, and our ability to work as a team is powerful and inspirational.
